Dana Fuchs is a phenomenon,
a singer whose mesmerizing voice and presence has led critics to compare her to rock legends from Janis to Jagger. Dana’s portrayal of “Sadie” in Sony Pictures’ highly acclaimed Beatles' musical film Across the Universe has exposed her considerable talents to a wide, international audience. Raised in a small town in the swamps of Florida surrounded by soul, funk, rock and country, she was singing every Sunday in a small black baptist choir at age 12. At 19 she headed north to New York to "sing the blues" alone and broke, ending up down and out on NYC's Lower East Side where she worked her way up through New York's gritty club scene, combining her deep southern music roots with her sometimes dark but always soulful stories of lost, ambivalent, and misplaced love. Her sold out club NYC shows led to Dana being cast as Janis Joplin in the hit off-broadway musical show 'Love Janis.'
Her run there led her to renowned director Julie Taymor who cast her in Across the Universe.
This is Dana's first Tour of The UK and she comes in support of her rocking and soulful new Album Love To Beg (on Ruf Records) which has garnered rave reviews in the UK press. Here are just a few:
"To look at, Fuchs is willowy flower-fairey with a head of Titian curls, like a wayward Joss Stone. Her voice, though is juke-joint dirty and illicit, evoking Joplin, Jagger, and a fag butt bobbing in a glass of bourbon"
– Classic Rock UK
"Part extreme shout (‘Pretty Girl”), part croaky and profound (“keepsake”), and part rock sister (“Summersong”), … she has talent simmering towards detonation … One to watch."
– R2 Magazine UK
