'A musician's musician' with an illustrious career which began in the 1970s playing Blues in San Fransisco Bay, USA. With a string of Grammy nominations to his name and voted in the top 100 guitarists of the century, he is particularly known for his blues playing, but is equally at home in a wide variety of musical contexts.

New Album “Bringing It Back Home”

The new album ‘Bringing It Back Home’ from Grammy-nominated guitar virtuoso Robben Ford is released through Mascot Label Group/Provogue Records on 18 February 2013 [Cat. No. PRD73882].   The record revisits and reshapes the roots of Ford’s first musical love. The guitar kingpin selected 10 tunes from the blues canon for what is a stunning study in soul, style and virtuosity that cuts to the heart with its exceptional, emotion-laden musicianship. The all-star line-up features organist Larry Goldings, drummer Harvey Mason, bassist David Piltch and trombonist Steve Baxter.

Ford, who Musician magazine called one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century," emerged from northern California in the ’60s as part of the Charles Ford Blues Band. In that group — formed with his brothers and named after their father — he supported blues legends Jimmy Witherspoon and Charlie Musselwhite, getting a hands-on education in the style.  However, he truly developed his reputation in the jazz and pop world of the 1970s and ’80s as a solo artist, a member of the ground-breaking fusion group L.A. Express and a sideman with Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and others.

Now he’s back with a set of carefully crafted dynamic, new and highly original arrangements. “Bringing It Back Home’ is the album I really wanted to make right now,” Ford relates. “I wanted to apply my perspective to the music that first moved me, get together with a group of great musicians and play what we were inspired to play at that moment, without any pressure or expectations. The results are really pure, and the most fun I’ve had making an album in years.”

1. Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky,  2. Bird’s Nest Bound,  3. Fair Child,                      4. Oh Virginia,  5. Slick Capers,  6. On That Morning,  7. Travelers Waltz,  8. Trick Bag,  9. You Go Your Way,  10. Fools Paradise

“The idea was to not re-invent the wheel,” says Ford. “Everyone knows the blues. My concept was to put great players together with songs that have deep roots and rich emotional terrain, and to just let something beautiful happen. As it turns out, that’s exactly what occurred.”
