Kula Shaker
at The Plug, Matilda St. Sheffield
During the Britpop-mania
of the mid-90s, Kula Shaker surfaced with K, an album drenched in Hendrix-ish
psych-rock and with the stylings of much Indian music that launched them
straight into the top 40 with four hit singles. After touring in the UK
and the US, releasing a second album, Kula Shaker split in late 1999.
Having dabbled with projects as individuals in the years following, a
reformation was announced in January of 2006 with the exclusion of keyboardist
Jay Darlington; 'Kula Shaker has arisen from the bottomless pit. How and
why will be revealed in good time'. www.kulashakermusic.com

The Toasters
At The Boardwalk,Snig Hill. Sheffield. S3 8NA
It's impossible to talk about ska music in the USA and not mention The
Toasters. Ever since introducing their brand of 2-Tone influenced ska
music to an unsuspecting American public in 1982, The Toasters have been
on point of a movement that is now taking the country by storm -- even
Billboard has dubbed The Toasters as 'ska pioneers'. (Moonska)

Show Of Hands
At The Boardwalk,Snig Hill. Sheffield. S3 8NA
Steve Knightley and Phil Beer are widely acknowledged as the finest acoustic
roots duo in England. Knightley, who writes most of their inspired material
and Beer, a dazzling multi instrumentalist, have built up a huge following
which has seen them twice sell out the Albert Hall and headlining at major
festivals from Glastonbury to WOMAD. Voted Best Live Act in the 2004 BBC
Radio 2 Folk Awards, the jury is still out on just what kind of music
they play. A genre defying mix of rock, roots, blues, country, trad, and
often influenced by the music of other countries, it is played out on
an array of instruments from slide guitar to fiddle, mandolin to South
American cuatro. 'Formidable operators in the roots arena. A class act'
The Independent.
