Lisa Mills
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
A Missippissi blues songwriter picked by Robert Plant himself as support on his American and European tours. 'She looks at you with a wide-eyed stare and piercing blue eyes set in a child-like face. Her innocence belies the depth of the woman behind the child. As she takes up her guitar and places herself in front of the microphone, her eyes harden, her face becomes that of a woman who has had a lot to deal with and the voice that comes out of her mouth will knock you out'- The Mississippi Press.

Newton Faulkner
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
What’s that sound??.......it’s acoustic guitar like we’ve never heard it played before. It’s a throaty but gentle blues croon that speaks of backwoods, beaches and the badlands of, ah, Surrey and its t*u*n*e*s.
Faulkner wants to move us, and himself, with his music. It’s his inventiveness that made this 21-year-old one of the most buzzed-about DIY artists of 2006. With no promotion and bugger-all money his first release, last spring’s Full Fat EP, reached Number One on Amazon’s singles chart. The shuffling beats; the laidback scat singing; the ‘tapping’ of strings have struck a chord with anyone who has stumbled across his shows, causing the low-key release to sell-out its 3000 copies.
He spent his teenage afternoons teaching himself the guitar after picking one up for the first time aged 13, and at 16 he won a place at the prestigious Academy Of Contemporary Music in Guildford. ‘It was Rock School,’ . After stints in a couple of teenage wannabe punk, metal bands petered out Faulkner started writing and gigging on his own. A publishing deal and a record deal quickly followed.
His second release, the UFO EP, came out at the end of last year. The lead track, a co-write with his brother, is a rippling, infectious tune that had earned him a standing ovation at one of Jo Whiley’s recent Little Noise gigs (sharing the Union Chapel stage with the likes of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Lily Allen & The Automatic).

The Stranglers
The Picturedrome, Market Walk, Holmfirth. HD9 1DA
Seventies punk icons whose rat-infested songs plagued both the album and singles charts through the subsequent decade. Their compounded musical talents and enthusiasm, infused with large doses of charisma and dark notoriety goes more than a little way to explaining why The Stranglers have survived the vagaries of the music business. Recently the line has reverted to it's classic 4 format with with original members Jean Jaques Burnel, Dave Greenfield and Jet Black, with vocals being taken up by Baz Warne.

Martin Harley Band
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
Martin Harley is a singer/songwriter whose music draws on influences from old time blues and folk to world music to make a sound that feels so familiar you think you've grown up with it. Tight harmonies and snaking rhythms on the world's smallest drum kit and obscure instrumentation from Peter Swatton weave their way around the guitar. The lineup is completed by double bass and balalaika bass, sometimes bowed, sometimes beaten by Graeme Ross. An obvious love of music and an almost telepathic level of communication between this unusual three-piece make from a dynamic live performance.
