Eddie & The Hotrods
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
Eddie and the Hot Rods began life in 1976, when four teenagers from Southend on Sea got together and playing their own style of fast energetic rock and roll / r'n'b, were soon a big hit on the London pubrock scene. Catching the eyes and ears of the music press and the major record companies, they were soon signed up by the legendary Island Records and went on to have three hit albums and four top forty UK singles including the Top Ten hit 'Do Anything You Wanna Do'.
There have been numerous TV appearances worldwide and they have filled almost every major venue in the UK. A success in the USA too, they have toured alongside The Ramones, Tom Petty, The Police, Squeeze and Talking Heads. After over a decade of touring, and with various members of the band involved in other projects (Paul Gray - UFO/The Damned: Barrie Masters - The Inmates: Graeme Douglas - The Kursaal Flyers: Steve Nichol - One the Juggler...), the Hot Rods slowly ground a halt and for a few years there were only occasional reformations involving several line-ups. However, throughout the changes, one man remained a constant - the 'very RocknRoll' Barrie Masters and in 2000 the band were asked to take part in a 76 date tour of the UK alongside Dr. Feelgood, John Otway and The Hamsters. Barrie reconditioned his Hot Rods and the tour was a great success. The band have been back in demand ever since.
In 2003, they recorded an album of brand new songs, "Better Late Than Never", which was snapped up in France by Bad Reputation Records and then by Voiceprint Records in the UK. 2004 was spent touring the UK and France promoting the album and 2005 started off with the band back in the studio, writing songs for the next album. They continued to tour through into 2006, including the UK, France, Italy, Norway, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany, as well as a successful return to the USA. 2006 also saw the release of the bands first full concert DVD, "Live - 2005", recorded at London's Mean Fiddler, as well as a brand new studio album, appropriately titled, "Been There, Done That...". In addition, there was the live compilation "Right For The Night", which was released in anticipation of the bands scheduled visit to Japan (unfortunately cancelled at the last hour due to an unfortunate choice of promoter!). 2008 will see Eddie and the Hot Rods all over Europe and hopefully this time, Japan, as well as a return to the USA.

Jan Akkerman
Pacific Road Arts Centre, Birkenhead
Dutch guitar player Jan Akkerman (1946) did almost anything a musician could possibly do. He worked with many different musicians like BB King, Charlie Byrd, Cozy Powell, Claus Ogerman and Ice-T, besides being a former member of international acclaimed bands such as Brainbox and Focus and made more than a dozen solo records that showed his versatile playing without any boundaries or limitations. Whether it’s ‘Tabernakel’ (1973), the famous guitar-in-bed album ‘Jan Akkerman’ (1977) or his most recent studio outing ‘CU’ (2003), he explores and combines elements of rock, jazz, blues, classical or modern dance music and give those his own signature.
On stage, Akkerman has been touring all around the world. Besides several appearances at the Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival, the Dutch North Sea Jazz Festival, his countless tours around theatres and different stages, the guitarist also performed far beyond Western Europe, in countries like Japan, Russia, North & South America and Australia. He also has a long-time fan base in many parts of the world. In his own country, Akkerman received a Golden Harp in 2005 for his complete oeuvre and again gained recognition and sympathy for his distinctive role in guitar music by many people.
Seeing Jan Akkerman live in concert is always a refreshing and fascinating never-to-be-repeated experience. Being an authentic improvisator he shows his maximal capability and, during band gigs, shares his affection on guitar with band members Coen Molenaar (keyboards), Wilbrand Meischke (bass) and Marijn van den Berg (drums).

Martin Harley Band + Vinnie All Stars
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
Martin Harley is a singer/songwriter whose music draws on influences from old time blues and folk to world music to make a sound that feels so familiar you think you've grown up with it. Tight harmonies and snaking rhythms on the world's smallest drum kit and obscure instrumentation from Peter Swatton weave their way around the guitar. The lineup is completed by double bass and balalaika bass, sometimes bowed, sometimes beaten by Graeme Ross. An obvious love of music and an almost telepathic level of communication between this unusual three-piece make from a dynamic live performance.

Mojo Buford
Sheffield, The Boardwalk
Best known for having played with Muddy Waters, Mojo Buford was born in 1929 in Hernando, Mississippi. He learned the harmonica from his father and also sang in the church choir when he was young. At 14, he moved to Memphis, where he met B.B. King and other blues players, and started soaking up the music in the local blues scene.
After a decade in Memphis, his ambitions shifted to playing in Chicago, and in 1954 he arrived in the Windy City. He formed a band with drummer Sam
Burden and guitarist Dave Members and the trio called themselves "The Savage Boys". They eventually got to know Muddy Waters, who began booking them as "The Muddy Waters, Jr. Band" at local venues when he was playing out-of-town gigs.
Buford played with Muddy in 1962, 1967-68, and 1971-72. During the 67-68 period he toured the U.S., Canada, Australia, England, and Europe with Waters, and also recorded live with him.
After his stints with Muddy, he moved to the Minnesota’s Twin Cities area, where he got the name "Mojo" - the fans at a St. Paul barbecue bar couldn’t get enough of his playing on "I Got My Mojo Working"- and the moniker stuck. Buford currently divides his time in between Minneapolis and Memphis and has been singing for James Cotton of late.
