Stephen Wilson Jnr
Stephen started his musical career as a tape op in a major analogue recording studio; his other duties included making brews for the likes of Aswad and the Stone Roses, learning his song writing skills and recording craft under the wing of producer, Mark Tolle. Quickly forming his first band, Smile Like fools, they started playing and touring with bands as diverse as Dr and The Medics, Steve Harley (who became a fan) and The Alan Parsons Project. After acquiring a development deal from Sony the band released their debut album to critical acclaim, then promptly split up! Stephen then formed the band Wilson, who played and toured with the likes of The Damned, Stereophonics, Toploader and Little Feat. The band secured a publishing deal with Chris Parry’s Fiction Records and went on to record sessions with John Peel and various national stations After a stint with Plastic Gun Alliance, Stephen took a break and went into the production seat, building his own studio in East Manchester, gaining in experience and honing his skills behind the console with such bands as Punk legends, Ed Banger and the Nose Bleeds, John Lever (ex-Chameleons) Red Sided Garter Snakes and artists with various other musical styles. When he was offered a gig with OK GO Stephen formed his next band on the spot, The Cornelius Crane, who continue to release critically acclaimed recordings to the present day. Nowadays, The Cornelius Crane are regulars on the bill with Alabama 3. Not content with merely producing, writing and playing in his own band, Stephen has also produced dub crossover band from Manchester, Supajamma. He has also regularly taken on keyboard and guitar duties to play live and tour with acts such as Lee Scratch Perry and Dreadzone.
